- I Never Get the Slow-Blinking LED Light on the “Function” Button
This is the main sign that your turfRad sensor is not getting a GPS location signal, or that it’s not receiving sufficient power.
Possible Causes and Fixes
1. Your turfRad sensor is not getting a GPS location signal.
There are several things to try to resolve this:
- Make sure the GPS antenna (black square box) is firmly attached to the port labeled GPS on the sensor and pointed upwards towards the sky
- Make sure you have a clear view of the sky; you will likely not get GPS lock in a metal-roofed maintenance facility.
- It can take up to 10 minutes to obtain GPS lock on your first install when the sensor has moved a long distance since last obtaining a fix.
- Check that there are no pinches or dings in the GPS antenna wire. Deformations or small breaks in this cable can compromise the low-power GPS signal. If you need a new GPS antenna, please request one from support@terraradtech.com.
2. Insufficient Power Supply
-
If the function light stays off completely, check the power source and connections.
-
Ensure the sensor is connected to a reliable power output (for example, avoid USB ports on some utility vehicles, which may not deliver consistent voltage).
-
For array setups, make sure each sensor receives its own power connection rather than splitting one power source. Power loss from shared or low-output connections can prevent proper operation.
Summary
In most cases, this issue is GPS-related — but an unreliable or insufficient power source can also prevent the function light from blinking. Verifying both the GPS setup and power connections usually resolves the problem quickly.
