- Automatic Operation Explained
Once configured, the turfRad sensor automatically starts and stops measurements based on your facility's upload radius and buffer zone. No manual actions are required during normal operation.
Key Concepts
- Upload radius: Area around your facility where the sensor connects to WiFi and uploads data.
- Buffer zone: Transition area between active measurement zones and the upload radius.
How Automatic Measurement Works
- When you drive the equipment out of the buffer zone, the turfRad sensor automatically starts measuring.
- The sensor continues measuring as long as you remain outside the upload radius.
- When you drive back into the upload radius, the sensor stops measuring and attempts to connect to your WiFi network.
- The sensor uploads collected data and checks for software updates. Data is not collected while inside the upload radius.

Power and Reliability Notes
- The power LED may remain on briefly after you turn off your equipment; the sensor is running on its internal battery to finish uploads and checks.
- Rusted or oxidized cigarette lighter sockets can cause unreliable power connections and may prevent data collection.
- We recommend using tape to secure the 12V plug in place if using the USB adapter.
