- Do I Need Wi-Fi for My Whole Course for This to Work?
No. You only need Wi-Fi at your maintenance facility (or wherever the turfRad-mounted equipment is stored). Wi-Fi is used for uploading data after a scan, not for collecting measurements while you're on the course.
How it works
Once configured, turfRad automatically starts and stops data collection based on your location:
-
When you drive outside the buffer zone, the sensor begins measuring automatically.
-
The sensor continues measuring as long as you remain outside the upload radius.
-
When you return inside the upload radius, the sensor stops measuring and connects to Wi-Fi.
-
The sensor then uploads collected data and checks for software updates.
Important: No data is collected while inside the upload radius.
Key terms
-
Upload radius: Area where turfRad connects to Wi-Fi and uploads data
-
Buffer zone: Transition area that prevents the sensor from starting/stopping repeatedly near the facility
What if Wi-Fi at the facility is weak?
If your maintenance facility doesn’t have a reliable Wi-Fi signal, we can:
-
Provide a cellular Wi-Fi hotspot for dependable uploads, or
-
Recommend a third-party LTE hotspot that works well for turfRad.
