Helpful tips for setting up and maintaining a stable Bluetooth connection so your turfRad sensor can be configured reliably.
Bluetooth Requirements
Before you start the setup, make sure the following is ready:
- Your iPhone
- The turfRad mobile app installed
- The sensor powered on and nearby
Bluetooth is only used during the initial configuration process to connect your phone to the sensor or if you want to monitor your file uploads on the App.
iPhone Settings Checklist
To ensure a smooth connection, please check the following settings on your iPhone:
Bluetooth
- Bluetooth must be enabled
- Go to: Settings → Bluetooth → Turn ON
Location Services
- Location access is required for the app to detect nearby devices
- Go to:
Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → ON
- Ensure the turfRad app has permission set to:
- Always
- Precise Location (toggled on)
App Permissions
- When opening the app for the first time, allow:
- Bluetooth access
- Location access
How Bluetooth Connection Works
The turfRad app automatically handles the Bluetooth connection process.
- The app searches for nearby sensors via Bluetooth
- You select your sensor and tap “Connect”
- The app then pairs and connects to the sensor directly
Important:

Do not try to connect to the sensor manually in your iPhone Bluetooth settings. The connection must be done inside the turfRad app.
- Do not try to connect multiple phones at the same time to the sensors.
Best Practices for a Stable Connection
Follow these tips to avoid connection issues:
- Keep your phone close to the sensor (within a few meters)
- Ensure the sensor is powered on
- Avoid interference from:
- Other Bluetooth devices
- Strong WiFi routers directly next to the sensor
- Stay on the setup screen in the app during connection
Common Issues & Fixes
Sensor not showing up
- Make sure Bluetooth is turned ON
- Restart Bluetooth (toggle OFF → ON)
- Move closer to the sensor
- Restart the turfRad app
Connection fails during pairing
- Do not connect via iPhone settings
- Retry using the “Connect” button in the app
- Restart the sensor if needed
App cannot find sensor
- Check Location Services are enabled
- Ensure permissions are granted to the app
Good to Know
- Bluetooth is only used during initial setup
- After configuration, the sensor operates automatically and uses WiFi (or cellular) for data upload
- You do not need to stay connected via Bluetooth during normal operation
